Major General Charles H. Gailes, Jr. is Commander, Contingency Command Post 1 and Task Force 51, United States Army North and Fifth United States Army, which is a deployable headquarters with a mission to command and control military forces in a domestic emergency. As Commander, he also serves as Commander, of the Department of Defense Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Consequence Management Response Force A.
General Gailes was commissioned in 1984 through Officer Candidate School at
Fort Benning, Georgia. He has served in numerous command and staff positions
including Military Police Company Commander, Military Police Battalion
Commander, and Deputy Commander for a Sustainment Command (Expeditionary),
Deputy Commander and Commander, 31st Chemical Brigade and Assistant Adjutant
General ' Army, Alabama Army National Guard. General Gailes has also commanded a
brigade-sized task force in coastal Mississippi in response to Hurricane Katrina
as well as Joint Task Force Tuscaloosa in response to multiple tornadoes in
April 2011. His last assignment was Commander, 167th Theater Sustainment
Command. Prior to receiving his commission, General Gailes served as a military
police Soldier with the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 31st Armor
Brigade.
