BRIGADIER GENERAL ERNEST C. AUDINO

Deputy Director, Operations, Readiness and Mobilization

Brigadier General Ernest C. Audino currently serves as the Deputy Director of Operations, Readiness and Mobilization, Headquarters Department of the Army, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff G-3/5/7. As the Deputy Director, he supports Title 10 functions associated with Army current operations, force readiness, mobilization, military support to civil authorities, information operations, electronic warfare, asymmetric warfare, special operations forces, and anti-terrorism/force protection. His responsibilities include supervision of sensitive special mission units. General Audino also supports and supervises the United States Military Observers Group - Washington. He oversees the development of plans and execution of all actions by the twelve Divisions and two Field Operating Agencies within the Directorate.

General Audino received his commission in 1983 from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. He served as tank platoon leader, scout platoon leader, tank company executive officer, tank company commander, tank battalion operations officer, tank battalion executive officer, and Army Congressional Fellow, Brookings Institution, with service in the U.S. Senate. He later commanded 1st Battalion, 33rd Armor Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division; later re-designated 2nd Squadron, 14th Cavalry (RSTA), 25th Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, Washington, a Stryker unit. He then graduated from the National War College and was reassigned as Chief, Training Division, Army National Guard.

Following that assignment he deployed to Iraq where he commanded a team of combat advisors embedded in 3rd Infantry Brigade, 4th Division Iraqi Army, an assignment he considers among the most rewarding in his military career. His brigade was formed entirely from Kurdish peshmerga (guerilla units) re-missioned to conduct counterinsurgency operations in Balad, Kirkuk, and along the Iranian border.

He redeployed to the United States and briefly served as Deputy Director of Operations for the National Guard Bureau until being selected as Executive Assistant to the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
