Major General Paul D. Brown, Jr. was the Chief of Staff who also served as the Commander of the Alabama Air National Guard. He was responsible for command and control of all assigned personnel, equipment, and resources for the Alabama Air National Guard which included two flying wings (KC-135's and F-16's), a combat communications group and two combat communications squadrons and one intelligence squadron.
General Brown began his career with a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force through Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corp. He entered Undergraduate Pilot training in October 1974 at Moody Air Force Base, Georgia. General Brown joined the Alabama Air National Guard, Birmingham, Alabama, in 1981 and was assigned to the 106th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron, flying the RF-4C. The 106th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron became an Air Refueling Squadron in 1994 and converted to the KC-135R. General Brown also served as Commander, 117th Air Refueling Wing, Alabama Air National Guard, Birmingham, Alabama.
