BRIGADIER GENERAL HAROLD E. REED

 

Chief of Staff, Wyoming Air National Guard

Brigadier General Harold E. Reed is the Chief of Staff for the Wyoming Air National Guard. He is also Dual-Hatted as Assistant to the Commander, 18th Air Force, Scott Air Force Base, Illinois. General Reed is responsible for oversight of all Air Guard personnel at the Joint Force Headquarters - Wyoming, and supporting the programs and agendas of the Adjutant General and the Assistant Adjutant General for Air. He also is responsible for the coordination of support functions between the Joint Force Headquarters, Wyoming and the 153rd Airlift Wing and the 153rd Command and Control Squadron, located at Frances E. Warren Air Force Base. Other duties include advising the Assistant Adjutant General-Air, Wyoming National Guard on mentorship and leadership programs, assisting in the development of expanded military operating area airspace in Wyoming, negotiating for additional land at the Cheyenne Regional Airport for future Air National Guard operations, and assisting in the development of possible new missions appropriate for the Wyoming National Guard.

General Reed began his military career with six years of active duty service before joining the 153rd Airlift Wing. Special qualifications included high altitude low opening drop, low altitude platform extraction system, functional check flight and special operations low level. He served as Operations Group Commander for the first coalition wing at Ganci Air Base, Kyrgyzstan. February 2009 through August 2009, he served as the Senior Air Force Representative at the United States Embassy in Pakistan.

General Reed was the Air Expeditionary Group commander during the 2005 Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System season and Hurricane Katrina support efforts, working through 1st Air Force. He also served as chairman of the Air Directorate Field Advisory Council from 2007-2009.
