Commander, 40th Infantry Division
Major General Scott W. Johnson was assigned Commander, 40th Infantry Division, California Army National Guard, in June 2009. He provides leadership to the Division as it mobilizes and supports subordinate commands on federal deployments, prepares for and deploys for domestics emergencies, participates in exercises around the world and meets training and readiness objectives of the command.
General Johnson was commissioned in 1977 through the Reserve Officer Training Program. Since his first assignment as Combat Engineer Platoon Leader in D Company, 1457th Engineer Battalion, he has commanded at all levels; company through brigade. General Johnson has provided leadership and support to Army National Guard Soldiers and their families during numerous mobilizations and deployments around the world. He commanded the Joint Task Force from California in the State's response to Hurricane Katrina in 2005. General Johnson has been the United States Director of various international exercises, to include Rapid Trident in Ukraine and Talisman Saber in Australia.
