Brigadier General Steven P. Huber is Commander, Land Component Command, Illinois Joint Force Headquarters, Illinois National Guard, Springfield, Illinois. The Illinois Army National Guard is comprised of approximately 13,000 Citizen Soldiers. He advises the Assistant Adjutant General and The Adjutant General on the readiness status of Illinois Army National Guard units in planning for mobilization and deployment. General Huber assists in organizing, training and planning for post mobilization missions. He also prepares mobilization plans according to published guidance and serves as the point of coordination with First United States Army for mobilization procedures. General Huber prepares the Illinois Army National Guard to provide Military Support to Civil Authorities and serves as the immediate commander of all assigned units to the Joint Force Headquarters. He also serves in a dual-hat capacity as the Deputy Commanding General, Training Support Division (East), First United States Army where he is Deputy of Training Operations responsible to observe conduct of training of Army National Guard units, conduct liaison visits, direct special projects and represent the Commanding General before civilian agencies and veteran and patriotic organizations.
General Huber was commissioned in 1981 through the Officer Candidate School
at the Illinois Military Academy. Prior to receiving his commission, General
Huber served as an enlisted member of the 108th Support Battalion, 33rd Separate
Infantry Brigade of the Illinois Army National Guard. He has held numerous
command and operational assignments throughout his military career and has
served in an Active Guard-Reserve (AGR) status for over 22 years. Prior to his
current assignment, General Huber served as the Deputy Chief of Staff,
Multi-National Division - Central South in Iraq, Commander of the 108th
Sustainment Brigade, Commander of the 404th Chemical Brigade and Commanding
General of Combined Joint Task Force Phoenix, Kabul, Afghanistan.
