MAJOR GENERAL JONATHAN T. TREACY

 

The Special Assistant to the Chief, National Guard Bureau

Major General Jonathan T. Treacy is The Special Assistant to the Chief, National Guard Bureau. As The Special Assistant, he is acting in the capacity of the Director, National Guard Joint Staff. He is the principal staff officer and advisor to the Chief, National Guard Bureau, responsible for the performance of the 1,100 member National Guard Staff and its transformation in support of the Chief, National Guard Bureau in his role as a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Prior to this assignment, General Treacy served as Commander, Joint Task Force Civil Support, United States Northern Command's standing operational joint task force of over 5,400 Department of Defense personnel, responsible for planning, anticipating and conducting immediate and decisive chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear consequence management response operations.

General Treacy was commissioned in 1980 as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps, through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, New York. After initial assignment as an advanced jet flight instructor, he joined Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 323 where in 1986 he flew in combat operations off the coast of Libya, Operation Eldorado Canyon. In 1988 General Treacy joined the 102nd Fighter Interceptor Wing, Otis Air National Guard Base, Massachusetts Air National Guard, where he held numerous positions including command of the 102nd Operations Support Flight, the 101st Fighter Squadron and the 101st Expeditionary Fighter Squadron. There he led the squadron through two combat deployments to Southwest Asia, Operations NORTHERN and SOUTHERN WATCH, as well as the initial air defense force response to the terrorist attacks on New York City on 11 September 2001. General Treacy has also served as the Assistant Adjutant General, Hawaii Air National Guard and Deputy Director for Antiterrorism and Homeland Defense, J-34. He is a command pilot with 189 arrested landings, over 40 hours of combat flight time and more than 3,300 flying hours primarily in the F/A-18 and F-15.
