MAJOR GENERAL JAMES A. COZINE

 

Deputy Commanding General (RC), Fifth United States Army (West)

Major General James Cozine assumed the duties of Deputy Commanding General (RC), Fifth U.S. Army (West) on 1 August 2002. As Deputy Commanding General, he is responsible for enhancing training readiness and training support synchronization for Reserve Component units within the States of Arizona, California, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington. In order to meet these responsibilities, Major General Cozine conducts training visits to select units and participates in appropriate Yearly Training Briefings. Additionally, he coordinates and interacts with Adjutants General, USAR Commanders, Senior Army Advisors, the National Guard Bureau, the U.S. Army Reserve Command and Civilian Aides to the Secretary of the Army.

The General's active military service began in 1966. As a Warrant Officer aviator, he flew attack helicopters with the 1st Aviation Brigade in Vietnam. He received a direct commission in 1979 and held numerous aviation command and staff assignments with the Idaho Army National Guard. Prior to this assignment Major General Cozine served as Commanding General, 116th Cavalry Brigade (eSB), Idaho Army National Guard.
