Chaplain, Brigadier General Vergel L. Lattimore is the Air National Guard assistant to the Air Force chief of chaplains, Bolling Air Force Base, D.C. He serves as the primary liaison between the Air National Guard Chaplain Service and the USAF Chaplain Service. He assists the chief, USAF Chaplain Service and the chief, Air National Guard Chaplain Service in maintaining a seamless, total force chaplaincy. He assists in directing and maintaining a trained, equipped, and professional reserve component chaplain service. The Air National Guard Chaplain Service performs federal and state missions and includes more than 550 chaplains and chaplain assistants. The primary mission of the Air National Guard Chaplain Service is to provide for the free exercise of religion to all Air Force personnel and their families worldwide. As a member of the Armed Forces Chaplains Board, he and other members serve as advisers to the secretary of defense and the Joint Chiefs on religion, ethical and quality-of-life concerns.
