Brigadier General Andrew Schuster assumed duties as Assistant Adjutant General for Readiness and Training, Headquarters State Area Command, Wisconsin in 1999. In this capacity he assists the Adjutant General in providing an Army National Guard capable of accomplishing state and federal missions. This is accomplished through direct coordination with organizations internal and external as well as review of inspections, training exercises and readiness reporting. Responsible for the oversight of Readiness and Training initiatives that affect soldiers and their families.
The General's military service began in 1965. He was commissioned an Infantry Officer in 1969 following Officer Candidate School. Throughout his career he has served in many capacities in both Infantry and Engineer Branches. Prior to his current assignment Brigadier General Schuster commanded the 64th Rear Area Operations Center and the 264th Engineer Group. General Schuster has been responsible for numerous overseas deployment exercises to Germany and Panama as well as Wisconsin's response to natural disasters. Instrumental in the Mobilization and Deployment of Wisconsin Army National Guard units in support of Desert Shield/Desert Storm as well as Kosovo, Bosnia, and Humanitarian Service Missions Central America. In addition he has been directly involved in the Wisconsin National Guard programs for At-Risk Youth.

Director, Badger ChalleNGe Program. Badger ChalleNGe is a thirteen and one-half month program for At-Risk Youth who are 14-16 years of age. The program offers the youth the opportunity and support necessary to improve their self-esteem and develop the positive life skills that allow them to become successful, productive and responsible citizens. The Badger ChalleNGe program is administered through the Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs.
