Commander, Land Component Command, Iowa National Guard
Brigadier General Janet E. Phipps assumed duties as Commander, Land Component Command, Iowa National Guard, Camp Dodge, Iowa on 31 January 2008. As the commander, she is responsible for supporting the command guidance and representing the Iowa National Guard in the community and the state.
General Phipps active military service began in 1985 when she received a direct commission in the United States Army Reserve as a Specialty Corps officer. She joined the Iowa National Guard in 1996 and branch transferred as a logistics officer. General Phipps transferred to the Michigan National Guard for three years and returned to the Iowa National Guard in 2001. She has commanded at the unit and battalion levels. Prior to this assignment, General Phipps served as Deputy Chief of Staff Operations and J3 at Joint Forces Headquarters, Iowa National Guard.
