Brigadier General John M. Motley, Jr. was the Assistant Adjutant General - Air, South Carolina National Guard, located at McEntire Joint National Guard Base, Eastover, South Carolina. General Motley was the principal advisor to the Governor and The Adjutant General on matters pertaining to the South Carolina Air National Guard.
General Motley joined the South Carolina Air National Guard in 1970 and served as an enlisted member until receiving his commission in 1978. General Motley has held many positions in the South Carolina Air National Guard including Chief, Security Police, Weapons System Security Flight Commander, Base Personnel Officer, Base Mobility Officer, State Military Personnel Officer, Wing Executive Officer, and Logistics Squadron Commander and Executive Support Staff Officer. As the Base Mobility Officer, he was instrumental in the unit's successful deployment and redeployment during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm.
