Commander, 167th Theater Sustainment Command
Major General Joe L. Harkey assumed Command of the 167th Theater Sustainment Command, headquartered at Fort McClellan, Alabama in August 2007. The 167th Theater Sustainment Command is the senior logistics organization dedicated to United States Northern Command and assigned to the Army Service Component Command, United States Army North. The 167th Theater Sustainment Command is a National Guard Multi-component unit, consisting of 67 Active Component soldiers, 91 Active Guard & Reserve soldiers and 283 traditional National Guard soldiers, to provide operational logistics command and control within the United States Northern Command's area of responsibility.
General Harkey was commissioned in May 1978 after completing Reserve Officer Training Course at Wofford College. He served on active duty in various command and staff assignments from 1978 to 1992. General Harkey joined the Alabama Army National Guard in 1992. He served in key positions such as Commander, 1-203rd Air Defense Artillery Battalion (PATRIOT); Commander, 111th Ordnance Group (Explosive Ordnance Disposal); Director of Joint Staff, Joint Forces Headquarters Alabama; and Deputy Commander, 167th Theater Sustainment Command.
