The Adjutant General, Texas
Major General Mayorga became the 50th Adjutant General for the State of Texas on April 17, 2009. He was responsible to the Texas Governor for providing ready trained forces of the Texas Army Guard, the Texas Air Guard, the Texas State Guard, and the Adjutant General's Department, better known as the Texas Military Forces, in support of state operations. General Mayorga was also responsible to the President of the United States for providing ready trained forces of the Texas Army Guard and the Texas Air Guard in support of federal missions.
General Mayorga attended Texas A&I University in Kingsville, Texas under a Reserve Officer Training Corps Scholarship where he was inducted into the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society and was recognized as a Distinguished Military Student. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant Engineer Officer in the Regular Army in December 1977. After serving four years on active duty, General Mayorga accepted a Reserve Commission in December 1981 and remained in the Individual Ready Reserve until joining the Texas Army National Guard in August 1982.
General Mayorga has held numerous leadership positions on active duty and in the National Guard from platoon leader to division commander. His most recent assignments have been as Deputy Commanding General for United States Army South at Fort Sam Houston, Texas and Commanding General for the 36th Infantry Division at Camp Mabry, Texas. Prior to becoming Adjutant General, General Mayorga had a 27-year civilian career with the Railroad Commission of Texas in the Oil and Gas Division as a Petroleum Engineer and Director in San Angelo, Abilene, and Austin, Texas. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Texas.
