National Guard Assistant to the Air Force Judge Advocate, Air Combat Command
Brigadier General Peter R. Masciola was Air National Guard Assistant to the Command Staff Judge Advocate, Headquarters Air Combat Command, Langley Air Force Base, Virginia. In this position, General Masciola served as the Air National Guard reserve liaison between the active duty and Air National Guard legal communities and The Judge Advocate General's Air National Guard Council on all Air National Guard law-related matters. He also provided professional direction and policy oversight to the 46 Air Combat Command gained Air National Guard legal offices and 5 Wing legal offices gained by Air Force Air Education and Training Command.
General Masciola received direct commission as a First Lieutenant in January 1984. During his 28 years of distinguished military service, he has served 14 years in both the Active and Reserve Components, holding progressively senior positions. In April 2012, he completed a deployment as Director of the Legal Operations for Combined Joint Interagency Task Force 435, Kabul, Afghanistan and was responsible for conducting Law of Armed Conflict Detainee Review Boards at the Detention Facility in Parwan and supporting Afghan criminal trials at the Justice Center in Parwan. In January 2010, General Masciola completed a 17-month active duty tour as the Chief Defense Counsel, Office of Military Commissions, overseeing the criminal trial defense of all charged detainees under the Military Commissions Act at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
