BRIGADIER GENERAL MICHAEL C. SWEZEY

Brigadier General Michael C. Swezey is Assistant Adjutant General - Army, New York National Guard. He also serves as Commanding General, 53rd Troop Command, headquartered in Cortlandt Manor, New York. As Commanding General, he provides leadership and guidance for the formulation, development and implementation of all programs and policies affecting the 4,100 Soldiers of the Troop Command. The 53rd Troop Command is made up of three brigade level commands to include the 369th Sustainment Brigade, Harlem, New York; the 153rd Troop Command, Buffalo, New York and the 53rd Army Liaison Team, Manhattan, New York. The 53rd Troop Command is also the headquarters for joint contingency operations in support of state homeland security missions in the lower Hudson Valley area.

General Swezey's active military service began in 1980. He was commissioned an Aviation officer upon graduation from West Point. While on active duty, General Swezey served with the 82nd Airborne Division located at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. After leaving active duty, General Swezey served in a variety of command and staff positions with the 98th Division in the United States Army Reserve before joining the National Guard. General Swezey previously commanded the 3-142nd Aviation Battalion and served as the Commanding General of the New York Army National Guard. General Swezey has extensive domestic emergency response experience. In 2012, as a Dual Status Commander, General Swezey successfully commanded National Guard, Active Duty and Reserve members of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines responding to SuperStorm Sandy in New York.
