MAJOR GENERAL JAMES W. NUTTALL

Deputy Commanding General, First Army

Major General James W. Nuttall assumed duties as Deputy Commanding General, First Army, Forest Park, Georgia, on 1 June 2009. As Deputy Commanding General, he was responsible for assisting the Commanding General, First Army, on training, readiness and mobilization of all National Guard and Army Reserve units across the United States and four United States territories.

After four years of enlisted service, he began his officer career in 1975 when he was commissioned a Field Artillery officer following Officer Candidate School. In his previous assignments, he served as the Deputy Director, Army National Guard, Arlington, Virginia, Deputy Director of Operations, Readiness and Mobilization, United States, Army, G-3/5/7 and as the Chief of Staff, Army National Guard, Arlington, Virginia.
