BRIGADIER GENERAL EMILE P. BATAILLE

Brigadier General Emile P. Bataille assumed duties as Assistant Adjutant General of the Illinois Army National Guard in January 2000. In his position, he serves as the principal assistant to The Adjutant General in all matters pertaining to supervision and management of the Illinois Department of Military Affairs and commands the Illinois Army National Guard consisting of 10, 200 citizen soldiers. As such, he is responsible for its overall readiness, operation, training, maintenance and logistical support and for the management, welfare, morale, discipline and safety of its members.

The General began his military career by receiving a commission through Reserve Officer Training School in 1970 and served on active duty at Fort Carson, Colorado, and in Korea with the 4th Missile Command from 1971 to 1972. His Training Division assignments have expanded his experience through the planning and execution of computer simulated training exercises. He has extensive experience in the tactical military intelligence community through assignments in Army Security Agency and Military Intelligence units. His Signal Corps experience covers company, battalion, and divisional communications assignments culminating with a recent General Officer brigade command of an Echelon Above Corps Signal Brigade that included units in a four state region. He oversaw the mobilization of three infantry companies to Saudi Arabia and Kuwait in TY 01. Currently, he is Co-Exercise Director for a European Command sponsored exercise Peace Shield 01 in the Ukraine. This exercise will integrate over ten foreign countries with a computer aided simulation exercise and a field training exercise to validate a Polish/Ukrainian battalion for service in Kosovo.
