MAJOR GENERAL JOSEPH J. CHAVES

Major General Joseph J. Chaves is the Deputy Commanding General, United States Army Pacific. He assumed this position on 1 June 2010. Prior to this assignment General Chaves served as the Assistant Adjutant General - Army, Hawaii National Guard.

General Chaves enlisted in the Hawaii Army National Guard in August 2, 1970. He earned his commission as a Second Lieutenant from the Hawaii Military Academy in August 17, 1973. General Chaves has held a variety of command and staff positions within the Hawaii Army National Guard. He was activated for federal service on August 15, 2004 and served as the Commander of the 29th Brigade Combat Team in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 2004-2006. Upon his return from Iraq, he led the transformation of the 29th Separate Infantry Brigade into the newly configured 29th Infantry Brigade Combat Team.
