Commander, Nevada Army National Guard
Brigadier General Randall E. Sayre is the Commander, Nevada Army National Guard, and the Assistant Adjutant General for the State of Nevada. Appointed by the Adjutant General in 2003, General Sayre is responsible for all policies, programs and plans for the Nevada Army National Guard. Upon appointment, during state emergencies, General Sayre also commands Joint Force Headquarters - Nevada (JFHQ-NV). In this role, General Sayre is appointed a Title 10 Officer and commands all state and federal forces assigned to JFHQ-NV.
As the Commander, Nevada Army National Guard, General Sayre commands more than 2,000 Army National Guard Soldiers, including: 1st Squadron, 221 Cavalry (OPFOR)(the third Maneuver Squadron of the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment and Opposing Forces (OPFOR), National Training Center, Ft. Irwin, California), a Signal Battalion, two Troop Command Headquarters, a Military Police Company, a CH-47D “Chinook” unit, a UH-60 “Blackhawk” unit, and a Medium Truck Company.
General Sayre earned his Commission through Army ROTC at the University of Nevada, graduating in 1975. After completing the Infantry Officer Basic Course, at Ft. Benning, he was selected for Flight Training and Test Pilot School. His initial tour of duty was in Korea, as an Aviation Operations Officer. After tours of Active Duty as a pilot, commander and instructor pilot in CONUS, General Sayre transferred to the Nevada Army National Guard in 1981. Since 1981, General Sayre has commanded units from the company to the state level.
