MAJOR GENERAL LAWRENCE H. ROSS

 

Director, Manpower and Personnel J-1, National Guard Bureau

Major General Lawrence H. Ross is the Director, Manpower and Personnel (J-1), National Guard Bureau. He is responsible for providing overall human resource strategic planning, integration, analysis, manpower and personnel policy, and oversight for the Chief, National Guard Bureau in order to enhance National Guard Bureau and Joint Force Headquarters initiatives, personnel readiness, operational capabilities and sustainment of the National Guard Community.

General Ross's military career began in December 1970 when he enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve. Following completion of six years of duty in the Marines he enlisted in the Florida Army National Guard. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant of Infantry in May 1979 after completion of Officer Candidate School at the Florida National Guard Military Academy. General Ross entered the Georgia Army National Guard in January 1980.

General Ross retired in 2006 as the Director of Security and Business Continuity from BellSouth Corporation located in Atlanta, Georgia. He had 35 years of service with BellSouth in a variety of line and staff positions, primarily at the corporate level, in Network, Fleet Management, Strategic Analysis, Planning, Contracting, Environmental, Safety and Real Estate. BellSouth (recently acquired by AT&T) was a fortune 100 company providing telecommunication services to nine southeastern states.
