38th Infantry Division Assistant Division Commander, Michigan Army National Guard

Brigadier General Leatherman assumed duties as Assistant Division Commander, 38th Infantry Division, Michigan Army National Guard on January 15, 2002. He is the direct assistant to the 38th Infantry Division Commander working within Michigan supervising and evaluating overall readiness of subordinate units and their capability of deploying on short notice. This is done with a thorough review of training, administration, supply, maintenance, transportation, and security activities.

General Leatherman began his military career in 1968 serving on active duty in the United States Army. He was commissioned an infantry officer upon completion of Officer Candidate School on April 18, 1969. General Leatherman was appointed in the Michigan Army National Guard on April 19, 1979. Prior to his current assignment he has served as Armor Company Commander, Armor Battalion Commander, and Infantry Brigade Commander.
