Assistant Adjutant General,
Pennsylvania Army National Guard
BG Alan K. Fry assumed duties as Assistant Adjutant General of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard on 1 February 2001. As Assistant Adjutant General, he is responsible for long range planning, personnel management, logistics, information management and safety for over 16,000 members of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard.
The General's Military career began when he enlisted in the United States Army in August 1968. He was commissioned through attendance at the Officer's Candidate School at Fort Sill, Oklahoma as a second lieutenant in 1969. His first assignment was with the First Cavalry Division in Vietnam where he served as a Forward Observer and Battery and Battalion Fire Direction Officer. Upon his return to the United States, he was stationed at Fort Dix, where he served as a Training Officer, Company Commander, and Battalion Executive Officer. He was discharged from active duty in 1972.
General Fry entered the Pennsylvania Army National Guard in 1973 when he joined the 213th Military Police Group and various assignments within the 28th Infantry Division, where he commanded the 228th Supply and Transport Battalion and the 228th Forward Support Battalion. He served in various assignments within the 28th Infantry Division Artillery, and commanded Division Artillery until July 2000. He then became Director of HQ STARC and finally, in February 2001, the Assistant Adjutant General, HQ State Area Command.
