COMMANDER,
34TH INFANTRY DIVISION
Major General Rick Erlandson is assigned as Commander of the 34th 'Red Bull' Infantry Division, headquartered in Rosemount, Minnesota. As Commander, he is responsible for the personnel, training, and logistics readiness for the top-ranked National Guard Division. He commands over 12,000 members of the Division in Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota, Missouri, and Indiana. Major General Erlandson recently returned from a six-month assignment as Commanding General for Task Force Falcon, KFOR 5B, Kosovo.
The General's active military service began in 1969 when he joined the United States Marine Corps and attended United States Marine Corps Officer Candidate School in Quantico, Virginia. He was commissioned in December 1969, and served one tour in Vietnam, Cambodia, and the Philippines. General Erlandson joined the Minnesota Army National Guard in 1976 and has commanded at all levels through multinational task force, until his promotion to Major General in September, 2004. His most recent assignment was as Commanding General, Task Force Falcon, KFOR 5B, Kosovo, an assignment he performed while dual-assigned as Assistant Adjutant General, Minnesota Army National Guard, and Assistant Division Commander, 85th Training Support Division.
