BRIGADIER GENERAL MICHAEL G. COLANGELO

Brigadier General Michael G. Colangelo is Assistant Adjutant General - Air, Arizona National Guard. He also serves as Commander, Arizona Air National Guard. General Colangelo is responsible for the leadership and direction of a KC-135 Tanker Wing, an F-16 Fighter Wing, an MQ-1 Predator Group and an Air Control Squadron. He is responsible for providing operationally trained, equipped, and mission-ready forces to support national defense requirements worldwide and emergency responses throughout the state of Arizona.

General Colangelo completed officer training school in December 1983 and continued on to Undergraduate Controller Training in January 1984. Prior to receiving his commission, he served as an enlisted member in the Unites States Air Force from February 1978 to December 1983. He graduated from the Defense Language Institute in May of 1979, and completed two operational assignments as an Arabic linguist with the 6931st Electronic Security Squadron, Iraklion Air Station, Crete and the 6994th Electronic Security Squadron at the National Security Agency, Fort Meade, Maryland.

After commissioning, General Colangelo was assigned as a Weapons Director with the 963rd Airborne Warning and Control Squadron at Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma through July 1988 where he flew over 1,500 hours on board Airborne Warning and Control System as a Mission Crew Member, Instructor, and Standardization/Evaluation Flight Examiner. In July 1988, General Colangelo became a full-time member of the Air National Guard in Connecticut serving as an Operations Officer and then Commander, 103rd Air Control Squadron. He moved to Arizona to command the 107th Air Control Squadron in June of 1995 and was later assigned as the Program Manager of the Arizona National Guard's Joint Counter Narco-Terrorism Task Force in April of 1999. He served as the Predator Project Director from November 2004 through July 2006 responsible for the stand-up of an Arizona Air National Guard MQ-1 Predator unit at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. He also commanded air control units in Operations Deny Flight, Steady State, and Support Justice.
