Deputy
Commander, Joint Force Headquarters
Brigadier General Gary L. Jones assumed duties as the Deputy Commander, Joint Force Headquarters in August 2003. He serves as the principal assistant to the Adjutant General for all Army National Guard issues. He is also responsible for assisting the Adjutant General on all matters pertaining to deployment and coordination of programs, supervision and management of the Louisiana Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, and Louisiana Department of Military Affairs.
The General began his military career in 1977 as a platoon leader in Company C, 528th Engineer Battalion. General Jones has commanded at various levels of leadership positions within the 528th Engineer Battalion and 225th Engineer Group. General Jones served as Chief for the Training Division for the Headquarters State Area Command with further assignment as Regimental Commander for the 199th Regiment (Leadership Training Brigade) prior to his current appointment.

Superintendent of Schools, Rapides Parish School Board, Alexandria, Louisiana. General Jones serves as Chief Executive Officer of an approximately 23,000 student public school district with 53 schools. He is responsible for the instructional programs, staffing, and day-to-day operations of the district. General Jones also serves as Secretary / Treasurer to the publicly elected school board that employs him, while serving as an appointed member of the Superintendent's Advisory Council to the Louisiana State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education.
