MAJOR GENERAL GARY L. SAYLER

 

The Adjutant General, Idaho

Major General Gary L. Sayler is The Adjutant General, Idaho. As the Adjutant General, he is the Governor's senior military advisor and is responsible for the command and administration of the Idaho Army and Air National Guard. Additionally, he is the Governor's Homeland Security Advisor and oversees the Idaho Bureau of Homeland Security. General Sayler is a member of the Governor's cabinet.

General Sayler earned his commission through the Reserve Officer Training Corps. His initial operational assignment was in Thailand flying combat missions throughout Southeast Asia. He joined the Idaho Air National Guard in 1977 as a weapons systems officer for the 124th Tactical Reconnaissance Group. He has since flown combat missions in the F4-G over Iraq during Southern Watch and Provide Comfort. His list of command assignments includes Flight Commander, Deputy Commander for Resources, Operations Group Commander, Fighter Group Vice-Commander, Wing Commander, Joint Task Force Commander and Commander, Idaho Air National Guard.
