BRIGADIER GENERAL JOHN D. OWEN

 

Air National Guard Assistant to the Command Surgeon, Air Mobility Command

Brigadier General John D. Owen is the Air National Guard Assistant to the Command Surgeon, Air Mobility Command. He is the advisor on Air National Guard issues such as aeromedical evacuation, airlift, personnel issues, waiver process and policy decisions concerning the significant participation of the Air National Guard in worldwide airlift and refueling missions. He also advises the Air National Guard Air Surgeon and the Air National Guard Assistant to the Air Force Command Surgeon on representing and developing policy for the entire Air National Guard medical mission.

General Owen was commissioned in 1978 through the Health Professional Scholarship Program at the University of Missouri School of Medicine, Kansas City, Missouri. Prior to his current assignment, he was the Chief of Staff, Missouri Air National Guard. General Owen served as advisor to the Adjutant General on matters pertaining to the Missouri Air National Guard. He directed and coordinated headquarters staff activities in support of 2,700 personnel in a C-130 airlift wing, an F-15 fighter wing, an air operations group, a bombing range and four specialized squadrons and flights. He also serves the State of Missouri as Director of the Joint Staff, Missouri Joint Force Headquarters where he oversees domestic operations, joint staff, special staff and the state partnership program to the Nation of Panama.
