Major
General Thomas G. Cutler is the adjutant general of Michigan. He commands and
directs the Michigan Army and Air National Guard, with a total of 159 units.
He began his military career by attending basic military training in 1970. He then attended officer training school and received a commission in July 1971. He attended undergraduate pilot training at Vance Air Force Base, Okla., and received his wings in September 1972. In August 1987, he became the Commander of the Alpena Combat Readiness Center in Alpena, Mich., and oversaw the entire renovation and modernization of that facility and organization. In October of 1996, he became the commander of the 127th Wing, Selfridge Air National Guard Base. His role as the host wing commander included providing overall support and services to tenant organizations, including all branches of the military as well as the Coast Guard. He is a command pilot with more than 4,800 flying hours.
