Commander, Operational Command Post 1, United States Army North
Major General Basilica assumed command of Operational Command Post 1 on 1 March 2008. In Louisiana, his full time position is Director of the State Military Department. His previous assignment was Director of Logistics (J-4) for the National Guard Bureau. Prior to his assignment with National Guard Bureau he commanded the 256th Brigade Combat Team during Operation Iraqi Freedom III in support of Task Force Baghdad.
For thirteen years, he held various executive-level positions within the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development to include Chief of Staff, Undersecretary, and Interim Secretary. Upon return from his combat tour, he accepted a full time position with the Louisiana National Guard and was immediately appointed Commander of Joint Task Force Pelican, charged with leading the National Guard Hurricane Katrina/Rita relief efforts.
General Basilica was commissioned in 1978 upon graduation from the United States Military Academy at West Point. He served for 10 years on Active Duty with the 9th Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, Washington. General Basilica later served in Germany with the 21st Support Command as the Chief, War Plans Division. Since his appointment to the Louisiana Army National Guard in 1992, his assignments have included command assignments from battalion to brigade.
