Nevada Guard responds to Washoe Drive fire

RENO, Nev. - About 50 Nevada National Guard Citizen-Soldiers and -Airmen supported civil authorities fighting the Washoe Drive Fire south of Reno, Nev., on Friday.

The Guard members primarily worked an 11-mile corridor of the affected areas as a security presence helping augment local first responders. They ensured no unauthorized personnel entered the areas and maintained general safety in the area.

The wildfire affected at least 3,000 acres.

Additionally, three Nevada guard fire trucks and supporting personnel responded to help battle the blaze.

No other Guard assets were requested.
