The South Dakota National Guard is hosting the 24th annual Golden Coyote exercise June 7 – 21 in the southern Black Hills. More than 4,000 servicemembers from 92 units representing 27 states and four foreign nations are participating. Golden Coyote provides relevant training opportunities in support of the Global War on Terrorism and homeland defense.

National Guard Delivers timber to local tribe

Soldiers from the South Dakota and New Mexico National Guard participated in a log-haul mission Thursday, June 6, on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. The 1742nd Transportation Company from South Dakota and 1116th Transportation Company of New Mexico delivered seven truckloads of timber from Hot Springs to the Oglala Sioux Tribe at Manderson, S.D. Classroom training put into action

The nation’s only sling-load training team from Fort Lee, Va., trained National Guard and Reserve Soldiers during the first week of Golden Coyote. After a week of being in classroom environment students were taken to Sturgis Municipal Airport for hands-on sling-load training while the instructors were there to observe, evaluate and assist the students. Army Reserve Soldiers train for urban combat

Army Reserve Soldiers received training in urban combat this week as part of the 2008 Golden Coyote training exercise at West Camp Rapid in South Dakota. Army Band plays at Mt. Rushmore

Members of the Minnesota and South Dakota Army National Guard band teamed up to play for Custer State Park visitors Sunday June 16, 2008.
