Eyes on the Border - A National Guard member, of Jacksonville, Fla., scans out over the Arizona desert on Monday, Nov. 14, 2006. Verne is one of over 1800 Guardsmen from around the nation currently working to protect Arizona's border with Mexico. Fifteen Arkansas Air National Guardsmen are there supporting Operation Jump Start as well. The majority of the Arkansas troops are conducting support operations which effectively frees up Border Patrol agents to get out on the line and apprehend those crossing the border illegally. Desert Duty in the States - Surrounded by the cacti of the Arizona desert, a National Guardsman scans the state's border with Mexico for illegals. The Arkansas National Guard currently has 15 Airmen supporting the mission in Arizona. Over 200 more Soldiers and Airmen are supporting Operation Jump Start in New Mexico and Texas.
