Hurricane Katrina, eight years later: Former Guard chief reflects on the Guard's "finest hour"

Army Maj. Timothy A. Doherty, with the Georgia Army National Guard's 148th Medical Company (Air Ambulance), helps a man from a school building near downtown New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. More than 50,000 National Guard members responded to the disaster and by the end of September 2005 they had flown more 10,200 missions, airlifted more than 88,000 passengers to safety, moved roughly 18,000 tons of supplies and relief aid and saved more than 17,000 lives.
