Pennsylvania National Guard and civilian emergency responders train together

Four Pennsylvania National Guard Soldiers carry an actor playing an injured victim of a natural disaster July 25, 2012 at Lancaster County Public Safety Training Center. The Army and Air Guard members participated in a weeklong training event to prepare to aid other first responders in a large-scale emergency.

Air National Guard, Reserve MAFFS-equipped C-130s integral part of wildfire suppression

The Wyoming National Guard's 153rd Airlift Wing use a Modular Air Fire Fighting System equipped C-130 Hercules aircraft in support of the Waldo Canyon wild fire in Colorado Springs, CO on June 27, 2012. Four MAFFS-equipped aircraft from the 302nd Airlift Wing - an Air Force Reserve unit - and 153rd flew in support of the U.S. Forest Service as they fought fires in Colorado. MAFFS is a self-contained aerial firefighting system that can discharge 3,000 gallons of water or fire retardant in less than five seconds, covering an area one-quarter of a mile long by 100 feet wide.

The Texas National Guard members conducted various military-to-military training sessions in support of Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa, whose mission is to build partnerships with nations in East Africa.

Women from the Colorado Air National Guard and Jordanian Armed Forces participate in the V Walk at the High Ropes course at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., June 5, 2012. Colorado and Jordan started women’s leadership events back in 2009 and have executed eight of these types of events since. The National Guard Bureau’s State Partnership Program links U.S. states with foreign nations to promote and enhance bilateral relations; supporting homeland defense and international relations by nurturing dependable, collaborative partners for coalition operations in an era of persistent conflict. U.S. service members carry a local woman unable to walk into the gates of the clinic in Thies, Senegal, July 11, 2012. The medical care provided by U.S. service members is part of Exercise Western Accord 2012, a multi-lateral exercise with Senegalese and several West Africa nations. The training exercise runs from June 26 - July 24 and involves the armed forces of Senegal, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Gambia and France, as well as U.S. service members – primarily Reservists from the Marines, Army, Navy, and Air Force.

Working out of Peterson Air Force Base, Colo., the more than 65,000 gallons of retardant have been dropped by crews from the 153rd AW and 302nd Airlift Wing on the Waldo Canyon wildfire.

The Colorado National Guard is assisting the Larimer Country Sheriff's Office with evacuation and to protect personnel and property during the High Park fire. "It's very comforting to the people who live up here to have these troops up here securing access to their evacuated homes," said De Gregorio.
