Utah National Guard hosts Western Regional Biathlon Championships

Army Capt. Dan Morken of the 489th Brigade Support Battalion, Utah Army National Guard, fires at targets downrange during the Western Regional Biathlon Championships in Soldier Hollow, Utah, Feb. 5-6, 2011. For the first time in a number of years, the Utah National Guard hosted the championships, which included civilian, Army Reserve and National Guard competitors from Utah, Colorado, Nevada, Montana, Arizona, Oregon, Wyoming, Texas and Guam.

Army Staff Sgt. Clint Koerperich, an Iowa Guardmember and squad leader for 2nd Platoon, Company C., 1st Battalion, 168th Infantry Regiment, patrols with Afghan National Army soldiers to investigate possible insurgent cache locations in the Zormat District on Feb. 5, 2011. The ANA and 2nd Platoon responded to a tip provided to the ANA by the Guardians of Peace program, which is designed to allow villagers to give information anonymously to Afghan National Security Forces and coalition forces.

Virginia National Guard gets Army’s first mobile VICE trainer

The Army's first mobile Virtual Interactive Combat Environment trainer was
delivered to the Virginia National Guard's Maneuver Training Center at Fort
Pickett on Feb. 2, 2011. Soldiers from the MTC were on hand to receive basic
operator training on the system. The VICE trainer is an infantry squad
trainer that includes realistic scenarios using lifelike weapons. When fully
fielded, the trainer will have three trailers that can link up to 13 Soldiers
at once during a scenario. Soldiers can train in a virtual environment with
real world locations. Trainers can watch and record how each Soldier reacts
within the given scenario.

Iowa National Guardmembers help Afghans improve winter storm response

Iowa's Emergency Decision Matrix to help the OCC-P build a written plan for
Panjshir Province's winter emergency response.

National Police Canine Association, Arizona National Guard partnership helps certify canines
