The Idaho Army National Guard’s 1st of the 148th Field Artillery Regiment conducted live-fire training using the M109A6 Paladin and more than 80 high explosive rounds during its annual training at the Orchard Combat Training Center May 12-27, 2022. Training included its first live-fire exercise using the U.S. Army’s modernized M1156 Precision Guidance Kit, a GPS smart fuze attachment that enabled the battalion to convert its existing 155 mm artillery shells into smart weapons and improve target trajectory.

Korean War MIA Soldier identified, laid to rest in Idaho

After 72 years, Pfc. Kenneth LeRoy Bridger was finally laid to rest with full military honors at a graveside ceremony in Twin Falls, Idaho, May 21, 2022. Bridger was reported missing in action on Nov. 30, 1950, while serving alongside his fellow U.S. troops during the war against North Korea.

More than 180 seventh graders experienced science through a hands-on field trip at the Morley Nelson Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area at the Idaho National Guard’s Orchard Combat Training Center April 28-29, 2022. The NCA is home to the largest and most diverse population of breeding raptors in North America and one of the only places where military training, extensive research, public land use and livestock coexist on the same land.

The Idaho Army National Guard completed its Government Acceptance Test on its newest range March 5-11 at the Orchard Combat Training Center. The Digital Air Ground Integration Range is one of just two Army DAGIRs and the only one run by the National Guard.

Idaho Army and Air National Guard aviation units conducted combat search and rescue and escort training together March 9, 2022, over Idaho’s Owyhee Mountains. The training rescue missions involved 124th Fighter Wing A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots escorting UH-60 Black Hawk pilots along the safest route of a simulated combat zone.

The Idaho Army National Guard Aviation Group deployed a small unit to the AFRICOM area of responsibility to support Operation Enduring Freedom Feb. 23, 2022. The unit will deploy for approximately nine months. The unit is based at Gowen Field and flies the C-12 Huron aircraft.
