Minnesota, Ohio Guard prepare to deploy with partners

Croatian and Minnesota National Guard Soldiers prepare to clear a room during an Operational Mentoring and Liaison Team training exercise at the Joint Multinational Readiness Center. The U.S. and multinational troops will deploy together to Afghanistan as part of the NATO International Security Assistance Force. The OMLT will help with the ISAF mission of assisting the Government of Afghanistan in establishing and maintaining a safe and secure environment.

Alaska Guardsmen arrive in Vietnam for Pacific Angel

Cargo is off-loaded from a C-130 Hercules from the Alaska Air National Guard's 144th Airlift Squadron shortly after they arrived at Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, May 8, 2010. Thirty-nine military personnel from bases around the Pacific and continental U.S. are participating in Operation Pacific Angel 10-2 in the Can Tho area May 10-17. Pacific Angel is a humanitarian and civic assistance program conducted in the Pacific area of responsibility to support U.S. Pacific Command's capacity-building efforts. This is the second time the operation has been held in Vietnam.

Ward: Guard partnership with Botswana a 'model' program

William Ward, commander of U.S. Africa Command, upon his arrival in Gaborone, Botswana, April 28, 2010. During Ward's visit, the first since 2007, he was scheduled to meet with senior military and civilian officials to discuss ongoing and future military-to-military and security cooperation engagements. The BDF conducted 40 military-to-military exercises last year making it one of the most active of U.S. Africa Command's partner nations.

North Dakota Airmen complete first humanitarian project in Ghana

Airmen with the North Dakota National Guard's 119th Wing Civil Engineer Squadron paint the trim on a building on Burma Camp near Accra, Ghana. The building will serve as classrooms to train members of the Ghanaian Armed Forces. The two-week mission for the North Dakota Airmen is providing valuable training on contingency skills while helping Ghana — North Dakota's pair in the State Partnership Program.

Illinois governor, Guardsmen pay respects at Polish consulate

Gov. Pat Quinn, Consul General of Poland Zygmunt Matynia and Army Brig. Gen. Robert J. Pratt gathered at the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Chicago April 13, 2010. Quinn, along with Illinois National Guard leaders, gathered at the consulate to pay respects to the Polish president, military leaders and other dignitaries, who were killed in the April 10 plane crash.
