During the opening ceremony of the 2011 Association of the United States Army Annual Meeting and Exposition in Washington, D.C., on Oct. 10, 2011, Secretary of the Army John McHugh pointed out that the Army provides 50 to 70 percent of deployable forces. Additionally, he said, the Army represents about half of America's entire fighting force, yet consumes only a quarter to 30 percent of the entire defense budget.

"I thought if I couldn't be there, ordering graduation invitations was the least I could do," said Mccann.
