Colorado National Guard testing residents for COVID-19

By Colorado National Guard

CENTENNIAL, Colo. – The Colorado National Guard is testing as many as 300 residents a day at a walk-up and drive-thru testing site at Island Grove Park in Greeley.

By order of Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, nearly 70 members of the Guard’s Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and high-yield explosive Enhanced Response Force Package based at Buckley Air Force Base, Aurora, tested people with symptoms of COVID-19 April 24-28.

No appointment or doctor’s note was necessary, and the test was free.

“We are here to help the State of Colorado and the people of Weld County to stop the spread of COVID-19,” said U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. Mike Loh, the adjutant general of Colorado. “Our National Guard members are on the front lines, fighting against a dangerous and invisible enemy.”

More than 420 CONG members are mobilized for the COVID-19 response in Colorado.

More than 275 CONG members are supporting the City and County of Denver to shelter people in Denver experiencing homelessness.

About 50 Soldiers are assisting the state and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to convert the Colorado Convention Center in Denver and the Ranch Events Complex in Loveland into medical shelters.

The CONG is also providing planners to support local emergency operation centers in other Colorado communities.

Approximately 30 Soldiers and Airmen continue to serve in their full-time roles supporting the CONG operation from Joint Force Headquarters in Centennial.

All CONG members have been medically screened and are on federally funded orders under state control.
